Issue with Push counter and notify examples

I am looking to migrate an existing application from PF 4 to 5 that successfully used push notifications throughout. But, before I do that, I am not able to get either the Showcase "counter" or "notify" examples to work in Chrome (47.0.2526.73) or Firefox (42.0) just by simply navigating to the Primefaces hosted versions. In Chrome, for example, the console output when loading the "Counter" example is:

I've disabled firewalls, antivirus, etc. Are there security settings I need to modify or something simple that I am forgetting? The server state is being updated as I can see the number increment when I refresh the page, just not in real-time.
