p:rating - required does not work

Hi,

I am using <p:rating> and I see that "required" does not work. Even if the rate is empty, it does not bother to throw a message.
Here is how I am using it.

<p:rating stars="5" id="rateID"
value="#{promoteBacking.wpd.wupdRatingProvidedByUser}"
required="true" requiredMessage="You must rate the product." />

<p:message for="rateID"/>
