I meant it's not vital for small lightweight applications. It's vital for complex applications and it depends on user requirements too.

I'm sure those utilizing PrimeFaces for small or trivial applications might find this deficiency irksome but possibly tolerable.
However, those developing enterprise and larger commercial applications, whose interfaces are virtually completely driven by user expectations, and make considerable use of the table construct, would not find this a minor annoyance.

It is my impression that PrimeFaces does not want to gain the reputation of not being a serious contender within the enterprise or larger commercial application marketplace. Unfortunately, it just takes a couple of these snafus, for a offering to gain a "not ready for prime time" label.

Hi John,

I don't want to discuss "not ready for prime time" label or similar stuff (although I know now more and more persons that are not satisfied with PrimeFaces). I have found the happy medium by overwriting some components and extending them, so that I'm happy with PrimeFaces currently. I just wanted to say that of course, it's not quite good that backwards compatibility is not kept. In prev. releases customers could select multiply table rows by ctrl-key and now not. They ask why and etc. Unfortunately an update to the new version cost us several thousand euros too. We became wiser and will do upgrades rarely in the future. But well. PrimeFaces is anyway a good choice for fancy web applications and rocks. I love it.

My last post to this topic would be the same as my other responses to any other feature request, create a feature request in our issue tracker and we'll see how many user votes it gets.

Cagatay,

I read once (at least I think I did) that only team members (Prime Teknoloji employees?) can contribute code. Is this about commit rights in svn or does it go further in that you do not accept patches e.g. due to possible licensing/copyright issues?

The reason I ask is that I seem to have a nice fix for column widths in scrollable datatable with widths based on % and even a dynamic width of the datatable itself. I'd like to 'donate' this and continue with the issue of this topic and also contribute a patch. But if it is not going to be accepted, then I need to find other means of distributing the enhancement.

Cheers,

Ronald

p.s. keep up the good work, this is not meant as critisism.

Sure you can attach patch to an issue. But there isn't guarantee that it will be accepted.

adding a patch to an issue and waiting what will or will not happen to it is (and I do not want to sound rude) not good enough. I need a little more assurance before opening it (it will be developed anyway). Otherwise it could as well become a pe:datatable (primefaces extension) or whatever (since the license would permit resusing the basis this) but I do not prefer it.

Most of the work is not even jsf related, but basic jquery stuff, so a lot more people could help out improving components, if they only took the time instead of just complaining.

Cheers,

Ronald

Ronald, I agree with you. I don't prefer pe:datatable too. I could help PF and there are a lot people which could help with basic jquery stuff, fix Maven plugin (I saw issues there) etc. There are at least 3-5 really enthusiastic people here in the forum. They want to help for free and have fun with PrimeFaces. Your decision, PrimeFaces :-)
