field disabled

I noticed that if I put a field with disable = "true" any value that contains within it is not passed to the bean. Is this normal or is it a failure?

I have application with a way to disable image in a field, save the bean when I send my clean this field if it is disable. Of course it has dozens of ways to treat it but wanted to know if this is normal behavior or a failure.
