Prototip alternative?

I want to use Prototip with my web app, but since I'm using Primefaces which depends on jQuery, I can't use Prototip because it depends on prototype. Prototype and jQuery can't be used together, at least not in Primefaces which uses the $ shortcut.

So, can anyone tell me if they've come across an alternative to Prototip that won't clash with Primefaces? I'm using it to make hovercards with stems, using ajax to load the content.

Edit: It would be nice to see this in PrimeFaces, however I would also be interested in any hacks (without modifying the source) to get this working with the Primefaces 2.2 ToolTip.

Never mind, I just found Tipped by the same author. It's the next incarnation of Prototip and is based on jQuery.

Edit: Tipped requires jQueryy 1.6.2+. PrimeFaces 2.2.1 and 3.0.M2 use 1.4.4 and 1.6.1 respectively. I was able to modify tipped.js to require 1.6.1+ and the demo seems to work, so I'll see how I go migrating my project to PrimeFaces 3.0.M2.
