Tree Drag and Drop Removed?

Looking at issue 2489 and 2781, it seems as though support for Tree drag and drop has been removed with no solid target for release. It is very disappointing that this feature was removed so late in the development cycle. Is this something you are hoping to add back for the final release?

It was experimental and removed, will be added in a future release after 3.0 final.

Although not fully as I'd like it to be, the drag and drop for the tree was kind of usable. Is leaving it in place as an experimental feature an option?

It wasn't really usable due to bugs, it will come back after 3.0 final with a solid implementation.

Maybe I was lucky to not have run into these bugs
