p:selectOneMenu, p:ajax and f:setPropertyActionListener

besically i want to use inside <p:ajax> action with parameters. I use p:ajax in p:selectoneMenu. I could enhance the SelectIem to some custom object. but then again the p:ajax actions do not have an ActionEvent like normal f:ajax or some prime changeListeners.

Since JSF2.0 you can naturally use action methods with parameters, you can make an actionlistener process an invisible button with an action. but this workarround is not my favorite..

I read this discussion [1] and I know how to set attributes in normal JSF components [2]. However, maybe some of you found a better way?
