Dear PrimeFaces Community,

I'd like to give some information about our progress on PrimeFaces 2.2.

Major goal of this release is the enhanced JSF 2.0 support, we've almost completed the work on migrating to standard JSF 2.0 ajax apis, resource apis and more. Lot's of code have been removed after this migration, PrimeFaces now uses standard ajax apis with it's own extensions like ajax callback parameters.

Another significant improvement is on resources, as we've fully migrated to JSF 2.0's Resource APIs, there is no need for Resource Servlet anymore.

As a result of these PrimeFaces does not require any configuration anymore, one single jar, no mandatory dependencies, zero-config makes PrimeFaces even more lightweight and easy to use.

Regards,

Great news Cagatay.

You write you rid of Resource Servlet. How did you solve the problem of referenced CSS, JS resources in various (third party) resources? Do you remember our discussion?

I've used #{resource} feature of JSF 2.0 in CSS files, with the new skinning infrastructure it became much easier to do this change and added an api to resolve a resource path programmatically just in case for resources that are referenced programmatically not with css. Also migrated to @ResourceDependency to register resources. Hopefully by the end of the week, resources will be fully migrated and we can start working on new datatable.

Also as we've removed some junk out as a result of these enhancements and PrimeFaces 2.2's size is around 200kb less than 2.1 although it has new components and features. ;)
