This is the zindex description from google maps api:
All Markers are displayed on the map in order of their zIndex, with higher values displaying in front of Markers with lower values. By default, Markers are displayed according to their latitude, with Markers of lower latitudes appearing in front of Markers at higher latitudes.
The default works in most cases, however in some not. In my use case I'm displaying geo tagged photos form flickr on a map. Unfortunately, some people tag hundreds of photos with the same lat and long. In this case there is just one marker for all these photos on the map. Therefore we need a zindex attribute for marker.
