datatable multiple select puzzlement

If in a datatable with multiple selection, how to select them all? A plain single click acts like CTRL-click, and shift click does weird things with selection on the screen.

I basically want the user to be able to do a select all. CTRL-A is no good. Click on 1st row, shift-click on last row is no good.

I've tried on the showcase with IE8, FF3.6, Chrome 7.

It does say the following at the top of the page:

Multiple selection is achieved by using modifier keys such as ctrl.

However, this appears to be a left over from the old 2.1 DataTable. This isn't supported in the new DataTable (yet?).
