MenuItem compatible themes

It seems that the following themes are not MenuItem compatible:
Start
Eggplant
South Street
Excite Bike
Vader
Black Tie
The drop-down shows up, but none of the text is readable. It become readable only after you hover over it.
This was tested using as well as downloading and installing South Street skin.
