p:pickList and items with & character

I'm using p:pickList and my list of items has the lines with the & character.
When generating the xhtml markup such characters must be encoded as & to avoid the xml parsing problems in the browsers like Google Chrome which says something like:

This page contains the following errors:

error on line 222 at column 2047: xmlParseEntityRef: no name
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.

Of course as workaround I can encode all my items before to set they into the p:pickList model but is there any better way to make p:pickList do that encoding automatically?

I have checked with PrimeFaces 2.2.RC1 and RC2

Thanks in advance.

BTW. I feel the same problem will be for < and > characters.
