dataTable push feature

I'm new to primefaces and have built a test datatable screen. We are looking to move from our internal trading application using some swing like components in a java applet to a web based one for our clients. I want the ability to push updates to a dataTable without having the user request updates. We are looking for a desktop feel with updates getting pushed periodically. I see you have a push tag but this just provides a tunnel from the server with a callback javascript function. I guess this just by passes the jsf lifecycle but how would this work when passing data directly to a dataTable. Your chat example pushes text and use appends it to the chat area. Is there some sort dataSource I can attach the data to?

For the push, I'd wait for PrimeFaces 3.0. Atmosphere integration will be reimplemented with the experiences we gained from the proof of concept in 2.2 and past releases.
