commandbutton icon

Hi
Primefaces 12.0
I would like to display icon in commandbutton.

As per doc, I have

<p:commandButton icon="excel" />

in css I defined
.excel{
background-image: url(excel.png) !important;
}

But no icon on the button is displayed.
excel.png file is correctly placed, I tested it.

Any idea?
