Poll component and threads

Hello. I'm using the <p:poll> component to update a dialog whose shows how many bills were billed.
So, I have a function that processes the bills and the other function that calculate the progress of the first function.
The function that calculate the progress is called before the function that processes the bills.

The problem is, when the first function is running and I call the second... the first stops until the second ends and I can't take a real progress of the process


How can I resolve this?
