Community Driven PrimeFaces Add-ons Project

Dear all,

I'd like to share an idea we've been thinking lately, idea is to create a separate project called PrimeFaces add-ons which is a playground for you to create your own PrimeFaces extensions, components and anything you can think of. For example you have a cool idea for a PrimeFaces component and we'll provide commit access to the add-ons project so you can create your component using PrimeFaces APIs and share with community.

We'll also put each add-on to primefaces.org with author credits and also deploy using add-ons showcase so other members of community can access them. Popular add-ons will make it to PrimeFaces eventually.

So my questions is, will you be interested in becoming a part of this?

I have been thinking about my reply to this post since your made your offer. I have interest in this project. In reality I created a new project BumblebeeFaces a month ago http://code.google.com/p/bumblebee-faces/ You can consider it as an add-on project to PrimeFaces, but quite autonomous and independent. I already created an infrastructure and bought a VPS (it has even more memory and power than yours). I have implemented some components, but I don't have much time to create a show case and write a documentation - full time job + part time participation in two projects. I don't really know what I should do with my effort. If you would provide me a proper access with the committer role I could transfer my first components to the PF Add-ons Project or the PF self. On the other hand we can take BumblebeeFaces as a "ready to use" Add-on Project and develop it onward with members of community. My intention is to involve 2-3 developers with a good JSF 2 background. Does anybody have an interest in order to help Bumblebee to learn flying? I can gladly provide my VPS for all purposes.

How would it exactly work with a possible Add-on project? Would Add-ons have the same release cycles as PF and be released together? Will everyone get committer rights for this project ( )?

Thanks for offer Oleg. I like the idea of a playground. The good thing about a playground is that everyone can play there. It may get a bit chaotic at times, but I think the advantages would outweigh the disadvantages. The biggest advantage is that it would be backed by PrimeFaces and this would automatically awaken the interest of potential users. The problem that I see at the moment is awakening the interest of potential developers and getting them to play!

As it will be the official addons project, I need to create the project and set things up.

Still there can be other addon projects like bumblebeefaces but this one will be official, let's get more feedback and start this after 2.2 goes final.
