Buggy Sidebar behavior

The first couple sidebars I used worked fine but now for some reason when using the same 'position=right' sidebar the modal layer (I assume) gets placed over the whole window so that even if I click inside the panel it closes itself. I have tried copying the entire vue component from the sidebar that is working into this component but it still behaves in this way. What's going on and how do I fix it? Can I manually place the modal layer between the page and the sidebar?
