How to find out what data type Calendar returns?

I am wondering if you bind a variable with Calendar then does it automatically return a string or a Date object?

In the documentation there is also:
modelValue any null Value of the component.

What is that?

In general is there a way to find out what datatypes a component provide to the variables you bind with it? I tried to look deeper in the dependencies of Calendar but was not sure what to look for.
