Datatable Cell Selection (cell block)

Hello,

for my project I need the functionality to select multiple cells like in the YUI datatable cell block selection mode example (http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/examples ... elect.html). Right now Primefaces only seems to support single and multiple row selection.
I would appreciate your ideas on how to best achieve this requirement with the current state of Primefaces. What parts of the datatable component should be changed? I know I need another selection mode but I'm unsure on how to handle the cell selection compared to the row selection which is already supported by the standard jsf datatable.

Cell selection is a planned feature to add to PrimeFaces datatable. See the related ticket;

I guess a cell click handler needs to be registered on javascript side with corresponding server side listener.

Your requirement is selections cells and then using a button like submit to send them to JSF backing bean right?

Hi Cagatay,

thanks for your quick response. You are correct, the user should be able to select (even noncontinous) cell blocks which would be submitted to the server. It would be nice if it were possible to configure if every cell selection event get send to the server or just the selected cells after clicking a submit button.

This would be a real unique feature, as I haven't found this selection mode even on plain javascript libraries. I'm glad to see that this feature is already planned. Can you estimate when a first version would be available?

As we implement most of the features based on the volume of requests from community, for now I can say in a couple of months as there are other issues with higher priority.

You might also consider commercial case support offer, in that case this feature could be implemented in a couple of days.

About the implementation you mentioned above (cell selection in datatable, range, single, multiple) is already present in the version currently in production? if it's not where can I find it?
