Unable to Unselect selectOneRadio with JavaScript

Hello. I have been trying all day to unselect a selectOneRadio component using JavaScript. It seems to be more complicated than just setting .prop("checked",false), due to the component skinning. And, there does not seem to be a documented client side API for unselecting the component. Does anyone know how to do this?
