"Jump" effect on p:menuitem in p:menubar

Is there a way to remove the "jump" effect on hover of a menuitem in a menubar? It doesn't look like I can use the ui-menuitem-active class or anything like that because it looks like there's JS controlling the height (seems to be decreasing by two pixels). This is having the undesirable effect of showing 2px worth of the menu's background color under the menuitem's area, rather than having the onhover color extend from the top to the bottom of the menubar.
