Dear PF Team,

as a consultant, I still see many companies, that suffer from writing their own components for historical reasons. Could you tell me roughly how many man-years did Primefaces for JSF took so far?

Thanks in advance and best regards

I have not been around that long but I have been a PF user since 2011. It looks like PF 1.0 started around 2007-8 timeframe. So hard to put in man years with all of the Open Source contributions from developers like tandraschko, myself, Rapster, jxmai, cnsgithub etc etc... but you are looking at a 12 year old code base!

12 years with PrimeTek developing PF 1-4ish and then from 4.0-now its been a heavily open source contributed project with Pro users paying for new components and features etc.

So in the end it would be REALLY hard to put a "man years" estimate on it but let's just say "a lot". I hope that helps. :)

So if there are 5 main (and very smart) developers plus open source contributions plus pro users with 50% contribution (fluctuating) for 12 years it could be around 30 man-years. I know you didn't mention a number for good reasons, so this remains a rough guess of mine.

Thanks a lot for immediate answer, Marc
