Grid CSS not applying

I'm trying to apply the grid CSS to my elements but when I apply it they just sit on the left without taking up the column space that I've assigned to it. I have my div elements with the ui-g-4 class and all assigned to a top level div with the class ui-g. Is there an import that I'm missing that I need or something I need to add somewhere?
