Replace scss when buying themes?

Hi

Is it possible to buy another theme and use as drop-in replacement ?

let's say i bought a theme named X and i'd like to buy another theme named Y.

Can i replace the scss only? i'm guessing some components won't work, but fixing them should be easy ... better then replacing my entire work
