There may already be an answer for this question somewhere, so please apologize if this is a dupe...
As my previously purchased prime theme is no longer being continued I am now in search for a new premium layout.
The fact that Avalon is inspired by twitter bootstrap sounds very promising...
So here is my question: is this theme also a full-featured twitter bootstrap replacement, meaning that I can also use other (non-primefaces) components which rely on bootstrap or is it just the same class names for responsive layout like col-md-xxx, etc.?
Primefaces Avalon bootstrap compatibility

It is not a replacement, it actually does not depend on Bootstrap so you may use it or without Bootstrap. In case you are using some components from Bootstrap, they will look unified with PrimeFaces components, also you may choose to use the grid system of Bootstrap or other utilities as well, all will work in harmony. So overall it is very flexible, you can pick what you need and use within Avalon and PrimeFaces with no technical and visual problems.
