And I want to make partitial update of main menu depending on which menu item is selected.

How is this task related to PrimeFaces? It's your app. logic. Use dynamic includes e.g. (ui:include with src bound to a bean) or "rendered"=true/false attribute to display main panel according to the menu selection. This task was discussed many times in this forum.

Well, you could have a look at Primefaces layouts, and dynamic includes like Oleg stated.
